I was seven-teen years old when I watched the TV show called "Emergency Room" for the first time. Obviously, I didn't understand what people were saying without Japanese subtitles. And I found the textbook for a radio English program at a bookstore so I could start studying English again.
Sometime I regret that I didn't try to speak English with the radio programs, since my English conversation skills could be better if I did. The teacher of the programs for introductory was named "Ken Toyama" and he was a professor at a famous college. Please visit his web site.

The style of his lessons was great because he had a policy of being willing to speak with cheerfulness and pleasantness. We learned colloquial expressions so we don't have to focus on grammar in the lessons and he said the same phrase at the end of every lesson. "Keep listening, keep practicing and keep on smiling!!"
After a year, the next one I chose the was "Osugi Masayuki English Radio Programs" His lessons had adolescent drama stories. One of the stories that I liked was about a high school student who did like himself, who was in love with a girl who worked at a restaurant and whose parents were in the middle of a divorce. In the story, we could learn about the many troubles in his life. This story was very popular with women listeners and it was published because of popular request. I want to recommend it to everyone. I was listening to this radio program for three years. A good thing about Radio English programs was how we needed to listen to them at a specific time everyday. We wouldn't be able to ever hear it if we missed the time it aired. I used a cassette recorder to record them but it had no timer. At the time, we couldn't use the Internet or ipods so now is a good age for learner. Because we can listen to English programs with these tools wherever we go.
